Going on holiday?

Sunscreen

Don’t forget to pack your Melano-correct Skin Pods!

I’ve always been a practical dermatologist. I don’t advocate a vampire lifestyle. I do, however, encourage my patients to enjoy the sun responsibly.

So if you’re holidaying somewhere warm during the June holidays, then follow the SIX S’s:

2 – SLOP on your sunscreen – make sure it’s broad-spectrum, SPF30+ at least and put on ENOUGH (that’s two fingerlengths for the face and neck). Choose a water-resistant sunscreen if you’re going to be swimming.

3 – SLAP on your wide-brimmed hat

4 – SEEK shade, especially during peak hours

5 – SLIDE on your sunnies

6 – SUPPLEMENT

  • Polypodium Leucotomas: A powerful antioxidant and the closest thing to ‘internal sunscreen’. It boosts the efficacy of your SPF while limiting sun-induced pigmentation and collagen breakdown.
  • Resveratrol: The ‘longevity molecule’ which protects your stem cells while both directly and indirectly blocking pigmentation pathways.
  • MethylsulfonyImethane(MSM): A potent antioxidant which strengthens keratin, supports collagen production, reduces inflammation and lightens pigmentation.
  • Glutathione: Your body’s master ‘super’-antioxidant which blocks enzymes in the pigment pathway and swings the pathway towards making lighter ‘pheomelanin’ pigment.
  • French bark extract: Increases the skin’s defence against damaging and pigmentation-causing UVA rays by 80% while preserving collagen and elastin and increasing hyaluronic acid production to boost the skin’s hydration.

Make some sunny memories without any pigmentation regrets!
